Coconut Oil – Health Benefits?

New fact about me that you probably don’t know… -> I HATE COCONUTS. The taste is just not my type – I can’t drink coconut water, even the flavored ones. If something is made with coconut, all I taste is coconut, nothing else in the dish or whatever I am eating. BUT, I hear that coconut oil has so many benefits, and after trying and throwing away like 5 different brands, I finally found one that is the best.

Coconut oil is used for SO MANY things! From skin, to weight loss, to hair! Hopefully, after you read this, you can take away some benefits and incorporate it in your daily routine.

Coconut Oil for Hair and Skin

Coconut oil for hair helps moisturize and makes your hair shiny. We know that coconut oil becomes a solid when it’s cold or at room temperature. So, the best way to use this ‘hair mask’ is to take your shower, do your normal shampoo, and when you’re done and want to use conditioner, use the coconut oil. If it is at a solid state, keep it in the jar and run it under hot water so it melts, pour it in your hand and put it in your hair. Allow it to stay in your hair for about 5 minutes, and rinse! Your hair will honestly thank you for it!

Another way coconut oil is good for your hair is if you’re struggling with dandruff. If so, all you should do is massage a small amount of coconut oil to your roots every time – over time, you will wake up with a smaller amount of flakes!

As for the benefits of coconut oil and skin is that it can be used as a moisturizer and helps with dry skin. There are so many reasons your skin can be dry, like dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis. I learned that it helps most when you come out of the shower, put a small amount on your fingers and put it on your face/skin while you’re still warm from the shower. In addition, it can be used to help make stretch marks invisible! haha

Another fun fact about coconut oil is that it can be used as chapstick!! If your lips are not cooperating with you, just use coconut oil and it should be back to normal! With that- I also learned that coconut oil can also be used as make up remover. I would put some on a cotton pad and just use it to wash my face – it literally took everything off of my skin! It’s magic.

Coconut Oil and Internal Health

Coconut oil has so many benefits for your body! There is so much to right, so I am just going to write it as a list! It helps boost mental health, helps lose weight and shrinks your waist, helps with Alzheimers and epilepsy, helps keep your gut healthy (we all need that), helps prevent UTIs and kidney infections, can be used as a cold sore treatment, helps with bug bites and itches (this I can say it does help! Use it every summer when mosquitos come out haha), and it helps you have better dental health (for this, you have to use coconut oil as a mouthwash and the particles in your mouth will get attached to the fat in the oil).

Brands?

There are so many brands of coconut oil, and like I mentioned, I hate the taste of coconut. So, after many many many tries, I have found one that has no flavor! Basically, if the coconut oil is refined, it shouldn’t have flavor, but even then, like I said, because I am so sensitive to the flavor of coconut, I still tasted one, whether it was in food or drinks.

Screen Shot 2020-04-29 at 2.09.22 PMSo my favorite brand is Nuvita, refined coconut oil. I found it at Costco when I was in Texas on a vacation, and brought that baby home with me! haha. Not a lot of Costco’s carry it, as the one by my house does not, but the one about 45 minutes away from me does – so be sure to check if your local Costco has it before going!

I literally cook everything with it! It has no flavor whatsoever, and I high recommend this to everyone that does not like the flavor of coconut! Get all the benefits without tasting it!

Another amazing thing that comes from coconuts is MCT oil! MCT oil is basically 65% of the fatty acids in the coconut oil, and it’s concentrated and stays liquid. It’s basically pure coconut oil fat. But, this has a lot of benefits, too. It helps with memory and brain functions, helps boost endurance and boosts energy, and helps lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels! If you’re not used to having MCT oil, please start with a small amount because it does/can make you go to the bathroom, and if you have a lot in the beginning, you can get diarrhea. It would be best to do some research before going all in on MCT oil!

Do you use coconut oil in your every day life? If so, how? Food, drinks, or body?
