Get To Know Rachle Morgan – A Health and Travel Lifestyle Blogger!

I got to interview a really great friend of mine! Rachle – she has taught me so much, whether it’s about life, or about blogging. She is always there with an answer, and if she doesn’t have it…give her like 30 minutes and she will have the answer! She is truly an inspiration and I am so glad she has come into my life!

Can you tell my readers about yourself and your blog?

My Name is Rachel P. Better known as Rachlemorgan, but everyone calls me Rach. I am 24 and currently live in LA. I grew up in a small town in Idaho and graduated with less then 200 people. I knew every single one of them. I have always been relatively good at creating from a young age and I love showing people new things as I discover them.

How did you first get into blogging?

Like all good bloggers, I started because I needed an outlet. Which is a fancy way of saying I was bored. I had plenty of people on Facebook ask me how I was able to travel at such a young age on minimum wage. I found a lot of people living through my adventures and I wanted to give them the same opportunity that was given to me. That’s when Mindful Travel blog was born. I went from a Facebook platform, to a Patreon platform, to finally my own URL.

What would be your ideal working environment?

I really had to think about this. At first I want to say in a coffee shop, but during slow times so there’s not a rush of people around me to distract me. I am most productive during the day, so my work would start later in the morning and go deeper into the afternoon. To be completely honest, I can work anywhere with a chair and Wi-Fi. I’m good at zoning into my work. I have worked in cabins in the cascade mountains, to beach houses in Santa Barbara. But what really makes my ideal work environment is a mug of tea, some cut up apples and almond butter, and other productive people working beside me.

What has been your favorite thing about being a blogger?

When I started writing about my travels and my mindful living, it was intended more for me and a small group of family who didn’t know how to navigate social media. It soon started to explode into a business venture where I get the joys of learning (and often failing) at trying new things with my blog.

I love learning about social media marketing, Search engine optimization (SEO), how to implement ads, what keywords to use, how to form a title, ect. When I master things like that it makes me feel accomplished. It inspires me to write new topics and help others achieve the same level of success.

Is there anything you’re struggling with right now?

My main struggle right now is understanding the affiliate programs. They often use statistics for pay per clicks, that I still don’t completely understand. I learn more and more each day about how to appropriately add links and HTML code to a post in order to create a visually pleasing ad.

When I started the affiliate program I thought it would be something completely different. I always knew it was based off of commission, but I don’t understand what deep linking was or anything like that (still don’t fully understand).

The other thing I struggle with is choosing companies to market with. I am so picky. I don’t want to advertise anything I don’t use. It stresses me out to market something I personally don’t have an experience with because I am mindful of my actions.

For example, I had a skin care company ask me to be an affiliate with them, but when I did research on the company I saw they weren’t vegan or cruelty free. Since then I have always done research on companies and became super picky with who I wanted to work with.

Were you able to ask for help when starting, or did you have to do everything on your own?

This is a difficult question to answer for me. I am pretty good at asking for help, the problem I have is letting go. I want to learn as much as I possibly can, so I often shadow peoples work. This is so annoying I know, someone constantly checking your work after they ask for help.

When it comes to asking for help, I have to be really mindful and know in my heart I will be able to completely let them take over. When I was switching from patreon to hosting my own site, this was the first time I really let go and let people help me. I had a group of two amazing people (Parker and EK) who helped me with branding and coding for my site.

Just recently I started recruiting people to do their own posts on my blog. From my perspective I feel like I am getting better at asking for help, there is always room for improvement.

What is your niche, and why did you choose that?

My niche is a Health + Travel Lifestyle. I chose that because of my passions to help people become the best version of themselves. A lot of people talk about how traveling has opened their mind and allowed them to feel closer to another culture. There is also a trend of wanting to get healthy before taking a trip. What better time to change healthy habits and open your mind then prepping, and taking a trip? It doesn’t have to be a trip around the world, It can be as simple as a road trip to another city.

Has there ever been a moment when you felt like you couldn’t keep going? If so, how did you get out of that funk?

Oh man, I had so much momentum the first two months of my own site. I had pre-planned posts, and everything scheduled accordingly and then I started school and it went downhill. I am one of those people who is more productive on a trip then when at home. Being unable to leave the city because of school was really daunting for me. I used school as an excuse to not keep up on my blog. I talk about it a little bit more on my blog, but I really use travel as a way to relieve anxiety and depression that controlled my life for years.

In order to get out of this kind of funk I take a weekend trip, to a friend’s house, or to a Airbnb. I get my planner out on the road trip, or at the house and I plan out posts, social media posts, blog posts, and I plan out school. That way I don’t have an excuse that school will slow down posts. You can replace “school” with whatever is putting you in that funk.

If you can tell yourself something when you first started blogging, what would it be?

This is not what it seems.

I had such a different view of how blogging would look when I incorporated it into my life. I made it something bigger and harder than it needed to be. It’s not easy work, don’t get me wrong. But it is not what it seems.
