Yes, let’s talk mushrooms. I know, I know, you’re either saying ‘yum! I love mushrooms’ or ‘ugh ew, they’re so gross.’ It is so weird to me that there really is not an in-between, you either love mushrooms or hate it, and I am thinking it has to do with thinking about it being a fungus? I don’t know. Well, I love them! Like, a lot… And I was doing research – I did not know they have so many health benefits! So, what are some health benefits of mushrooms? Let’s dive right in, after we chat about the types!

So, when it comes to mushrooms, there are so many types! There are shiitake, portobello, crimini, button or white, oyster, enoki, maitake, and beech. And even though these are all mushrooms, they have a different texture and taste! So who knows, maybe you like a different type of mushroom if you only tried one and did not like it lol.

So, I did not know this but mushrooms have a lot of antioxidants, which help your heart health and fight cancers. They also help boost your immune system and help fight against aging (is that why people think I am like 17? lmao). If you have cholesterol, mushrooms have a fiber that helps that! As well as help fight type 2 diabetes, but the types of mushrooms that have the most of fiber is the shiitake and oyster mushrooms.

If you need vitamin B & D, get some mushrooms! Mushrooms have the type of vitamins that help you red blood cells, help maintain healthy skin, helps your digestive system and nervous system, and helps your body make the needed hormones! (Also, as I am writing this, I am learning a lot more so I am getting even more excited learning all of these benefits!)

Also, people think that bananas are a good source of potassium? Well, they are but so are mushrooms! If you fill 2/3 cups of cooked (portobello) mushroom, that has the same amount of potassium as a medium banana! And if you’re wondering why potassium is good for you, it is super important for your heart, muscles, and nerve functions!

There is also so much more benefits to eating mushrooms, but I do not want to bore you any longer, but trust me when I tell you, mushrooms are super good for you. And there are so many way you can cook and eat them!

The most simple way is to just cut them and throw them in a salad, no need to cook them. Put them as a topping on pizza, or, my favorite, make a great mushroom pasta sauce. (YUM). You can also make a great steak or chicken sauce, like a chicken madeira they have a Cheesecake Factory, but they have their recipe everywhere. You can make a mushroom medley with garlic, like the one they have a Korean BBQ (some places). Like I said, there is just so much you can do with mushrooms! And honestly, if you want more ideas, do not hesitate to reach out to me on my socials! I would be more than happy to give ideas or help you!

I honestly hope this has you thinking more about mushrooms and whether or not you will give it another chance if you dislike them. With all of these benefits, I think you should try it again 🙂
